In 1787 Edmund Bruke said in a parliamentary debate that the Media is the 4th Pillar of the democracy or “Fourth Estate”. It’s clear enough that Media’s first responsibility to help built the nation. But, we all know what they do.
A journalist is someone who investigates, collects and presents information as a news story. This can be presented through newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the internet. Journalists are relied upon to present news in a well-rounded, objective manner. Sadly, now days, journalism is all about, fake news, illogical debate, even hypocrisy.
One day you watch a news channel or newspaper covering and fighting for a girl who being raped or molested and other day the same new channel showing the video or photos of a celebrity of being caught in a wardrobe malfunction. Media has the power to show the reality but what all matters for them is Television Rating Point or TRP. Corrupt politician’s pays news channel to hide their corruption.
The most unethical things almost every single journalist do is, asking victim’s relatives “How are you feeling being victimize?” even when someone dies or being raped or anything. That’s probably the most unethical and illogical question being asked by the so called “Journalist” and they are proud of it.
Journalist always complain if a celebrity get married or engaged without informing every one, I just wanted to ask a question to all those hypocrite journalists, how the heck does that matter? It doesn’t mean if they are celebrity they have to inform everything about their personal life. If a celebrity doesn’t answer their question, they make many buzzes about them. Is that real journalism?
Why none of the journalist asks questions to the parents who allowed their kids (Under 18 years) driving cars without DL, which is illegal. Why none of the journalist asks questions to the eve teasers “How do they feel while teasing girls?” Why journalists don’t ask questions to those corrupt officers “How they feel while taking bribe or why they take bribe?” Why don’t they help eliminating corruption by doing sting operations in government offices or where ever there is a corruption? Because that would be a hard work, but cooking stories in an AC room is certainly easier than doing a field work.
Journalist always ask questions to everyone, now, I ask a question to them why don’t they do some real journalism and help build the nation? Why journalists don’t care about the traffic and public convenience when they park their News Vehicles in the road for news? How many times a journalist tried to help a poor rather blaming government doing nothing, don’t they have any responsibility towards the nation?
There are some Standard Guidance for ethical Journalism, you can relate how many of them are being followed:
§ Show compassion for those who may be affected unfavorably by news coverage.
§ Use special sensitivity when dealing with children and inexperienced sources or subjects.
§ Be sensitive when seeking or using interviews or photographs of those affected by tragedy or grief.
§ Recognize that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort. Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance.
§ Recognize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than do public officials and others who seek power, influence or attention.
§ Only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone's privacy.
§ Show good taste. Avoid indulging to lurid curiosity.
§ Be cautious about identifying juvenile suspects or victims of sex crimes. Be judicious about naming criminal suspects before the formal filing of charges.
§ Balance a criminal suspect's fair trial rights with the public's right to be informed.
Fact is, today Journalism is the most corrupt field, where news being prepared by the order of corrupts politicians and making the money with fake and biased news, basically there is no code of ethics in today’s journalism. But there is another fact which can’t be ignores that, we being the viewer we believe all news, ignoring the facts what media does.
